Cathedral of Christ the King is a
Roman Catholic church in Hamilton, Ontario.
The Cathedral was consecrated on December 19, 1933. It
is the the seat of the Bishop of the Diocese of Hamilton, and
the cathedral of the Diocese of Hamilton.
The Cathedral has seating for close to five
hundred parishioners, built
by Joseph Pigott, a construction giant who built several
Hamilton landmarks including The Pigott Building downtown.
It's Gothic style has long inspired artists
since its completion in the late 40's. The interior was
partially reconstructed when it was gutted by a fire when
a candle on the main altar tipped
over and set the woodwork of the church ablaze.
The cathedral is perched atop a hill overlooking Highway
403 heading South towards Brantford and North towards Oakville,
Missisauga and Toronto.
