Downtown
Hamilton -
By Robin Laffier
The town of Hamilton was conceived
by George Hamilton when he purchased
the Durand farm shortly after the War of 1812. Official City
status was achieved on June 9, 1846.
The scene painted here is at King and Wentworth
heading West on King Street into the downtown core.
The Gothic Architecture of the Gates is emulated
throughout the city in other buildings and structures.
